Albany, New York

Dear Oma,

We made it to the Hampton Inn in Albany tonight just before the deluge as you can see by the picture of the immobile cars. The unexpected storm began with a few lightning strikes and within a half hour the streets were flooded with a couple feet of water right out front of our hotel.

After all of the hub-bub cleared up we went to meet a bunch of Dad's old fraternity buddies from RPI at a restaurant down the street. He didn't know who was going to show up, and was surprised to see so many of the guys. Here are the ones who stuck around for a few hours, in spite of the fact that nobody would come around to take their order for dinner. However, they didn't seem to be having any trouble keeping their beer glasses full.

Today was smooth sailin'. Most of the day was spent on a paved bike trail along the Erie Canal and Mohawk River. It was pretty flat and smooth, and parts of it were shaded, which provided relief from the record temperatures (100+ degrees) they were having in the area. We stopped to watch a couple of boats go through one of the locks.

Love,
Dave
