Fort Plain, New York

Dear Oma,

Just like in years past, Aunt Karen made the maps and was the navigator with a little help from Mama T every now an then. Because you know that the guys would never ask for directions.

Just when I thought we might get a break from last year's heat wave, Uncle Lar registered 109 degrees on his bike computer while riding a steady 5 mph up one of today's monster climbs. In a desperate attempt to cool off we chased down the ice cream truck outside of Herkimer and demanded cold things on sticks.

We found out that the route 5 bike route that we are following does not follow the Erie Canal all the way. We started at lake level in Sylvan Beach, and ended at canal level in Fort Plain, but here is a picture of us at the top of a HUGE hill looking down into the Mohawk valley.

We ended the day at the White Rose B&B where our host Melissa and her grandson Cameron made us feel very welcome. Cameron and Rick enjoyed story hour together just before we feasted like kings(and queens), thanks to NY Pizza in town.

Click on the small map below to see more detail of our route.

Love,
Dave
