Hadley, Massachusetts

"The Berkshires seem dreamlike on account of that frosting with 10 miles behind me and 10,000 MORE TO GO." Today we rode over 85 miles with 6000+ feet total elevation gain to get us over the Berkshires. The ride dragged into the early evening, lasting about 10 hours and requiring lots (lots!) of sweat. But we finally made it out of New York into Massachusetts and we are now in Hadley, MA.

We encountered some interesting sites, and obstacles, on our way out of Albany this morning as we tried to cross the Hudson river.

But eventually we did. Here Larry and davide try to figure out whether they are in Peru, MA or in Peru, SA (south america). On a side note, we saw two black bears today lurking across the road. Holy Toledo! Look out guys, there is one now!

Here's a typical lunch stop. Pretty much wherever we can find shade. We made today's stop at Plaine's bike shop in Pittsfield so Uncle Ross could get his bike tuned up. We sorely missed our boiled salt potatos today. We have been boiling up a couple of dozen salt potatos in the morning eating them for lunch. A great source of salt and carbs.

Here is Pearl the Squirrel in her XXXXXS Jersey. She has proven to be instrumental in keeping the sag wagon on course. She also chatters at me when I forget to leave the keys with the car and I pedal off with them in my pocket.

Love,
Dave
