Chatham, Massachusetts
WE MADE IT!
We mixed things up for the final leg of our journey. First, we hopped on the commuter
train to get from Uncle Steve's house to Boston. The Conductor gave us our own car, and didn't even charge us
the fare after he learned what we were riding for. We often encounter that kind of kindness on our rides,
and each time it is a wonderful surprise.
We arrived in downtown Boston and made our way to the ferry pier. We caught the attention of a number
of people who thanked us for raising money because they also had CF in their family. Here's a photo of
Sarah, from Texas, who has CF. Maybe someday she can ride with us too.
The 90 minute ferry ride from Boston to Provincetown (on the tip of Cape Cod) was quick and brisk. We lucked
out with a smooth ride, because Tarnow's are not known for having seaworthy stomachs. We arrived to a small welcoming party
in Provincetown and got geared up for our 43 mile ride. We adjusted a couple bikes so Eric and Winifred could
join us for the first part of the journey.
A lot of the route to Oma's house was along a Rails-to-Trails path, but there were still some areas where we needed to scrutinize
the maps. Or is that Rick scrutinizing Karen's map reading skills?
But in the end, we all made it to Oma's house - safe and sound with the sag wagons blasting Chicago's "You're the Inspiration". It has been another exciting adventure and successful
fund raising event. And the best kind of family vacation we could imagine. One thing for sure - we couldn't do this
without the support of our family.
