Dave's Cycle For a Cure 2006
My name is David Tarnow. I am seventeen years old and a senior at
Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My family and I are
also members of St. George Parish.
I never want to look back upon my life and wish I would have done
something more. The writer Nadine Stair sums it up beautifully in her
poem, "If I Had My Life Over." For her, eating more ice cream and less
beans and riding more merry-go-rounds are two of the many keys to a
fulfilling life. However, I believe this message can be interpreted by
every person who reads it in his own special way. For me, there has never
been a more humbling and grace-filled period in my life since I
created "Dave's Cycle for a Cure" two years ago.
The genuinely comforting grace one experiences after having helped
someone in need is nothing short of awesome; whether it is simply holding
the door for an elderly woman, or saying the words "I Love You" to a friend
in need. The magnitude of the deed is of no matter, and it is for this
reason that I am attempting to do what little I can for the 30,000 others
who, like me, are living with Cystic Fibrosis. I am committed to continue
"Dave's Cycle for a Cure", which is in its third year.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting 30,000 children and adults
in the United States today. The respiratory system and the digestive tract
are both compromised by CF, making involuntary activities like breathing
and eating extraordinarily difficult for these patients on a daily basis.
CF is considered a progressive disease. As the young people with CF get
older, they become more susceptible to devastating lung disease, endure
lengthy hospital stays, and ultimately die. There are some promising
pharmaceuticals and treatments, but research and testing take money.
This year my family and I will ride the Natchez Trace Parkway.
We will be pedaling over 500 miles starting in Nashville, TN on
June 11, 2006 and ending our ride in Baton Rouge, LA on June 17, 2006.
Please follow our progress along the way by checking my website.
You can also find out other interesting and fun facts about me and
why I am so committed to this race.
Please consider donating to CF to help find a cure.
You can return your donation in the self-addressed envelope enclosed
or you can go to my website,

"Dave's Cycle for a Cure"
we can SAVE LIVES ONE MILE AT A TIME. Everyone has a hero that
he/she admires; I challenge you to become that hero for someone
living with Cystic Fibrosis by helping them run the greatest
marathon of all -- life.
