Tuesday's ride was pretty flat and we had a nice tailwind most of the way. But the temperature soared to 108 on the pavement.
We also enjoyed Southern Hospitality at its very best. First, from an old couple who were out polishing their mailbox (?!) who warned us about the truck traffic. Then from the firemen Brian and Aaron who provided us shelter from the sun at the FD building and a recommendation for lunch. Finally If you are EVER in Vancleave, MS, be sure to stop by the Six Miles Out café and say Hi to Kay Sonnier and her daughters who run the restaurant. They will treat you to some goo-oo-ood home cooking.
After lunch, mother bird lost her chicks when they decided to take a dip in the Pascagoula River. How could she have missed the bike helmet with the pink flamingo hanging off the sign at the turn off to the swimming beach?
We beat the heat with 'noballs in Hurley, MS. Chocolate cherry got the most votes for best flavor.
Wrapping up today's list of unfortunate events, we had: one flat, 4 "lost" bikers, and Larry surpassing his goal of having a sore butt.
Look for other recommendations on fine southern cooking and hospitality in the next issue of 'Southern Biking' er, 'Living'.
