Here it is! The big boy in profile. Doesn't look very impressive, huh? Looks are decieving. It is one big hunk of stone. This photo was taken from near the Clouds Rest trail junction looking southwest. Almost a half mile from the actual rock. The green splotches on the shoulder are actually Ponderosa pines. Gives you an idea of the scale. The tourist route goes up the buttress in the center of the photo and then up the white streak in the center of the upper slab. The photo below is taken from Glacier Point looking northeast. It shows the Visor, which is a little chunk of rock sticking out like a diving board over the face of HalfDome. When you stand on it you have about 2200 feet of air under you. See the photo of me standing on the Visor. |
